What We Offer

Programs at the Dawn Center

In order to realize a society where women and men are able to live, work, and participate together in a variety of fields, the Dawn Center plays an important role as an information center. It supports women's independence, provides an information network, promotes international exchanges, and encourages cultural expression.

1. Information Programs
The information library, situated on the second floor of the Dawn Center, contains a wide range of current information related to women such as books, magazines, videos, and various data. Center visitors can read or borrow almost all of them, as well as watch videos and consult the librarians.
The center has developed and offered the women's information system. People can access it from home or work through the personal computer communication system, the Internet.
Various lectures designed to teach women the skills required to access and make the most of information in this information-oriented society, in addition to practical classes on how to operate the Dawn Net, are provided.

2. Counseling Programs
Through counseling from women's point of view about problems women face, the center offers necessary aid and support to help women stand on their own and live independent lives.
In order to meet the various needs of women, the center offers a variety of counseling services: "personal counseling" by specialized women counselors, "support groups" for women with similar problems in order to support each other (in japanese, English and Chinese), and "telephone counseling" for those who cannot come to the Dawn Center.
"Health consultation," "legal advice," and programs on self-assertion for women and understanding human relationships are also available.

3. Cultural Programs
To alter the stereotypical images about women in culture, art, entertainment, and the visual media, and to raise consciousness, the center supports cultural expression activities by and for women.
On the fifth floor of the Dawn Center is an audio-visual studio and editing room to support women's activities. Video programs for women are available here.
Periodically the center shows films made by women directors or those with a feminist's view, and holds a "Film Festival for Women" annually. Click here to see the lectures and events offered in Japanese.

4. Enlightment Programs
Programs to enlighten women and men who live in Osaka to increase their understanding and consciousness about gender issues are supported by the center. We also support the enlightment and self-learning activities.

5. Others
  Programs to develop women's abilities
Programs for investigation and research
Programs for international exchange
