DAWN HANDBOOKS
Sawako Nagatomo

The Dawn Center has issued two new handbooks compiling the know-how in project administration and achievements in research and study (available only in Japanese).

Since the enactment of the NPO law in 1998, more women have obtained corporate status. This handbook contains useful information about how to manage organizations and promote activities. In addition, the handbook presents views of NPOs, and examines, through case studies, how the NPO law has triggered the growth of women's groups. It aims to promote women's empowerment and enable them to establish mature NPO groups. It also provides guidelines for administrative staff and women's facilities in their collaboration with NPOs.

part 1. Organizational Development:
Examines the need for organizational development from a genderequal point of view
Provides advice on expanding local activities to larger projects in three areas: juggling aspirations and funding; examining NPO activities and roles; exploring staff consciousness and roles
part 2. Case Studies
Introduces 10 women's groups and NPOs

This handbook was compiled by the librarians in charge of information counseling at the Dawn Center Information Library, drawing from the library's experiences in six years information services. It carries such articles as information counseling know-how, building up structures, and skill training programs for the librarians and can be used as a manual for those public facilities offering special information to connect "women and information."
