Introduction to Dawn Center Project:
Violence against Woman

Gender-based violence has just begun to be addressed by Japanese woman. Violence against woman is a serious violation of women's human rights, which impairs the dignity of women and their right to be independent human beings. This is deeply rooted in the inaccurate view of gender consciousness in society. Dawn Center chose "Violence against Women" as an important theme to tackle as woman and men work together to create a new society for the 21st century.

At present we offer these programs which address this important theme:

1. Special telephone counseling - "Telephone Counseling for Women Who Worry about Unequal Partnership" - We accept consultation under specific themes covered for three days each.
2. Support Group - "To You who worry about Unequal Partnership" - We provide women with occasions to talk in groups about difficulties in their relationships.
3. Course on Women's Issues (5 sessions ) - "Violence against Women (Actual Conditions)"
4. Course on Women's Issues (5 sessions ) - "Violence against Women (Support Systems)"
5. Dawn Festival - organized under the basic theme "Culture and Violence"
6. Survey and Research - exploitation of media literacy teaching materials to correctly understand violence in the media.

Through these consultation sessions, enlightenment courses, and research projects, we intend to realize precisely the actual conditions of violence against women and seek solutions together with the victims and participants.
